YourPlace at Friday Night Live, July 21 2006

Dozens of people stopped by our display at Friday Night Live (July 21) to respond to that question and stick pins in our maps to mark their most beloved places. Their favorites were all over, from Cathead Bay at the tip of the Leelanau Peninsula to the bends of the Manistee River in Wexford County, and from Fish Town in Leland to Pirate’s Cove in Traverse City.

One couple marked Pyramid Point: “It’s breathtakingly beautiful and we were married there,” they wrote. Two young sisters put pins in their backyard outside of Kingsley because “Home is the best place to be.” Many people were hesitant to go public with the locations of their favorite places, not wanting any more company on their treasured beaches and lakes. But one Traverse City man generously promoted Rugg’s Pond near Kalkaska as a clean, quiet place for hiking and “good trout fishing.”
